Captain (Retired) Clifford Paul Barnes, a Georgia native, received his commission in the US Navy from the US Naval Academy in 1951 and served a total of 23 years on active duty. His service included tours of duty on surface ships and submarines. He was a commanding officer on both types of vessels and served in the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. Since retirement in 1974 he has served on several charitable and educational boards. Captain Barnes is a charter member of the Georgia Military Veteran’s Hall of Fame.
